Zone D Lions for the District
This is a continuous project to inform the general public about the dangers of this killer disease. We work together with Diabetes UK and local groups to set up screenings and seminars.
Diabetes (particularly Type 2) is accelerating globally and the impact of lockdowns has only worsened the trend. Its serious effects will become increasingly evident over time.
Diabetes doesn't always present any obvious symptoms - it causes excess sugar in the blood which damages fine blood vessels in vital organs. Therefore, the need to raise awareness is vital.
How to raise awareness?
1) Distribute educational literature at events and encourage public to identify their Diabetes Type2 risk by going on the Diabetes UK's website (https://riskscore.diabetes.org.uk/start); and
2) Promote healthier lifestyle - Diet and physical activity (Lions'- Strides for Diabetes Awareness)

Charity Walks in the Woods
An event popular with our club members, their friends and family the opportunity to contribute and participate in raising funds and enjoying it in the process.
This is a wonderful family day out especially if the weather is kind to us! Thus promoting healthy living with some sumptuous food organised by the clubs.
The walk averaging 10km along a canal or through the woods is very scenic on a good day. After the walk we indulge in a variety of hot and cold Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food,.
The day normally concludes around 3pm leaving you enough time to recover !
Our Lions Clubs collect unwanted and damaged spectacles. These are then sent to processes tens of thousands of recycled spectacles each year. All donations are examined by a team of Lions and other volunteers in the recycling workshop. Sorted pairs of glasses may then be sent for grading and distribution by Medico France in Le Havre.
Glasses are also sent directly to contacts running eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria, and Nepal. In addition, volunteers from the ‘Unite for Sight’ charity are supplied with spectacles to take with them on missions to countries across the world.
